This week we read The Purpose of Education and they composed a response indicating their views. The assignment required the students to read and complete comprehension questions based on the article. Once we finished the article, the homework was to create a blog post (to be posted to their ePortfolio next week) that indicates personal views on the topic.

We also read The Initiation by Sylvia Plath from the textbook. The students answered comprehension questions and took a short quiz.

The final assignment for the story was to create a poster that displayed literary elements

- WJHS Life – Tell a little about what is going on at school
- “How-To”s – Have any tips or How Tos to share?
- Music - What music are you listening to?
- Literature: Read any interesting … Quotes, ShortStories, Drama, Poetry?
- Sports – What is going on in the sports world?
- TV/Movies – What is good on tv or in the movies?
- Current Events – What’s new? What’s going on in the world?
- Check Ins – Tell us what is going on in your world?

Category: WJHS Life.
This category is for creative pieces about miscellaneous topics that aren’t really about music, tv, movies, or sports, but might still be interesting to kids in WJHS.
Suggestions:
- Examine the pros and cons of an issue.
- Write up an interview with someone in WJHS (friend or teacher).
- Create an interesting list.
- Write about current events in the area, country, or world.
- Pose an interesting “What if” question along with your answer.
Category: How-To….
This category is for creative “How-To” pieces.
Suggestions:
- Write a recipe with instructions.
- Give advice, such as “How-To” stop bullying, be a better friend, etc.
- Write directions for an arts & crafts project.
- Write directions for a science experiment.
Category: Music.
This category is for creative pieces about music-related topics.
Suggestions:
- Review new music.
- Write an informative article about a musician or band.
- Create an interesting list (i.e. Top Ten).
- Review a live performance or music video.
- Write up an interview with someone about a musician or band.
Category: Sports.
This category is for creative pieces about sports.
Suggestions:
- Review a recent game.
- Write an informative article about an athlete.
- Compare and contrast teams.
- Write up an interview with someone about an athlete or team.
Category: Literature.
This category is for responses to novels, poetry, short stories and plays.
Suggestions:
- Use a character, scene, event or theme of interest and reflect about the importance of that element in the storyline.
